What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your computer, tablet, or phone when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, keep users signed in, and — where permitted — understand how a site is used.
We also use similar technologies on lenderiq.co.uk, including browser local storage (for example, to remember your cookie consent choice) and session tokens used by our authentication provider. In this policy, we refer to cookies and these comparable technologies collectively as “cookies” unless the context requires otherwise.
Why LenderIQ uses cookies
LenderIQ uses cookies to:
- operate lenderiq.co.uk and the LenderIQ platform securely;
- authenticate Brokers, Lenders, and Borrowers and maintain signed-in sessions;
- protect accounts and prevent abuse;
- remember your cookie consent choices;
- — with your consent — understand how the marketing site is used and remember optional display preferences.
We group cookies into categories below. Essential cookies are required for security, authentication, and platform operation. Analytics, preference, and marketing cookies are non-essential and are only used where we have a valid lawful basis — typically your consent under PECR.
Essential cookies
These cookies are necessary for the website and platform to function. They cannot be switched off through our cookie banner because the site would not operate correctly without them. Their use is based on our legitimate interests in providing a secure, functioning service and, where applicable, performance of our contract with you.
| Purpose | Examples | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Cookie consent record | Stores your banner choice in local storage (liq_cookie_consent_v1) | Until you clear site data |
| Load balancing & routing | Infrastructure cookies required to deliver pages reliably | Session |
| Platform operation | Cookies required for core application state and form security | Session / short-lived |
Authentication & session cookies
When you sign in to the LenderIQ platform, our authentication provider (Supabase Auth) sets session cookies and related tokens so you remain securely signed in as you move between pages. These cookies:
- identify your authenticated session;
- support secure refresh of access tokens;
- enable secure borrower intake sessions where applicable.
Without these cookies you cannot access broker, lender, or borrower portal areas. They are essential and are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Security cookies
We use cookies and comparable mechanisms to protect lenderiq.co.uk and user accounts, including:
- session integrity and CSRF protection;
- detection of unusual or abusive activity;
- enforcement of access controls between user roles (Broker, Lender, Borrower).
These cookies are required for the security of the platform and are not optional.
Analytics cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the marketing site — for example, which pages are viewed and how users navigate. They are used to improve site content and performance, not to make lending or credit decisions.
Analytics scripts and cookies are not loaded until you accept analytics cookies via the cookie banner or preference centre. If you reject non-essential cookies or disable analytics in Manage preferences, analytics remain off.
We do not currently use third-party advertising or retargeting pixels on lenderiq.co.uk. If we introduce analytics tools in future, this policy will be updated before they are activated and consent will be collected where required.
Preference cookies
Preference cookies and local storage remember choices you make — such as dismissed notices or optional display settings — so you do not have to set them again on each visit.
Preference storage is optional. It is only activated if you accept all cookies or enable Preferences in Manage preferences. Rejecting non-essential cookies keeps preference storage disabled.
Marketing cookies
LenderIQ does not currently use marketing, advertising, or retargeting cookies on lenderiq.co.uk. We do not sell personal data or use cross-site tracking for advertising.
If we introduce marketing cookies in future — for example, to measure campaign effectiveness — we will update this policy, request consent before any such cookies are set, and provide a clear opt-out through the preference centre.
Consent & lawful basis
Our use of cookies is designed to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
These are strictly necessary to provide the service you request — secure access to lenderiq.co.uk and the LenderIQ platform. Under PECR, we do not need consent for cookies that are strictly necessary. Our lawful bases under UK GDPR may include performance of a contract and legitimate interests in operating a secure platform.
These are non-essential. We rely on your consent before setting or reading such cookies or loading related scripts. You may withdraw consent at any time by updating your preferences (see Section 12). Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
For wider information about how we process personal data, see our Privacy Policy.
Rejecting non-essential cookies
When you select Reject non-essential on the cookie banner, or save preferences with analytics and preferences turned off:
- essential, authentication, and security cookies continue to operate so the site and platform remain functional;
- analytics scripts are not loaded and analytics cookies are not set;
- optional preference storage is not activated;
- marketing cookies are not used (none are currently deployed).
Your choice is stored locally in liq_cookie_consent_v1 so the banner does not reappear on every visit unless you clear site data.
Browser controls
Most browsers allow you to refuse, delete, or block cookies through their settings. Useful starting points:
- Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari — Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking all cookies may prevent you from signing in or using platform features. Blocking only third-party cookies may have limited effect because many of our essential cookies are first-party.
Updating your preferences
You can change your cookie choices at any time:
- Cookie banner — On first visit, choose Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Manage preferences.
- Preference centre — Use the button below, or select Manage preferences on the banner when it is visible.
- Clear site data — Removing local storage for lenderiq.co.uk resets your saved choice and will show the banner again on your next visit.
Third-party cookies & subprocessors
Some cookies are set by service providers that help us operate lenderiq.co.uk and the LenderIQ platform. These providers act as subprocessors and process data only as needed to deliver their services to LenderIQ.
| Provider | Purpose | Cookie type |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication, session management, and secure platform hosting | Essential / session |
| Vercel | Website hosting, delivery, and performance | Essential / infrastructure |
| Analytics provider (if enabled) | Aggregated usage measurement on the marketing site | Non-essential — consent required |
We do not permit subprocessors to use cookies collected on our site for their own unrelated marketing purposes. Further detail on personal data processing is set out in our Privacy Policy.
Relationship with the cookie banner
A site-wide cookie banner appears on your first visit to lenderiq.co.uk when no stored preference exists in liq_cookie_consent_v1. The banner offers three actions:
- Accept all — enables essential cookies plus analytics and preference storage;
- Reject non-essential — enables essential cookies only;
- Manage preferences — opens the preference centre to choose analytics and preferences individually.
On Next.js app routes, the banner renders outside embedded marketing pages so your choice applies across the site. On static marketing HTML pages, an equivalent banner is loaded via our cookie script. Both use the same storage key and behaviour.
This Cookie Policy describes what the banner controls. If there is any inconsistency between a short banner label and this policy, this policy prevails.
Policy updates
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, if we add analytics tools, introduce marketing cookies, or change subprocessors. The effective date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
Where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to draw them to your attention — such as updating the banner text or posting a notice on lenderiq.co.uk — and will request fresh consent where required by law before activating new non-essential cookies.
